About Child Hunger Programs

In collaboration with more than 110 school partners in Southeast Nebraska, more than 1 million meals were connected through our Child Hunger Programs last fiscal year. This is done through four programs that aim to alleviate child hunger:

BackPack Program connects about 2,200 children with easy to prepare meals and snacks each Friday during the academic year.

School Food Markets and Pantries are held in schools across Southeast Nebraska, where about 4,600 students and their families select food from a monthly pop-up distribution in their school.

Lincoln Public Schools Emergency Pantry provides shelf-stable foods from a centrally located space three days a week during the school year.

Student-Parent Voucher Program provides vouchers to help student parents offset the cost of groceries.

Pa, Me, and Our Sidewalk Pantry by Toni Buzzeo

Pa and his grandchild, Jelly Bean, have a sidewalk library filled with stories. Anyone can bring donations or take something to read. Jelly Bean loves the sidewalk library! But what about when their neighbors might need something more than books?

Together, Pa and Jelly Bean build a sidewalk pantry right next to the sidewalk library. They get donations from neighbors who have a lot to give, and leave the doors open for those who may not have enough.
