Campbell's Grow and Share Produce Donations Program

Campbell’s Nurseries and Garden Center, Inc. is partnering with the Food Bank of Lincoln once again to collect fresh produce for low-income families. The Grow and Share program typically begins in early June and continues through the growing season. Homegrown goods donated through this program will benefit the Food Bank of Lincoln’s programs and agency partner network. An estimated 58,550 food insecure people live in the Food Bank of Lincoln’s 16-county, Southeast Nebraska service area.

Area gardeners are encouraged to bring excess fruits and vegetables to either of the two Campbell’s locations: 2342 S. 40th Street or 5625 Pine Lake Road.

The food will be collected for the Food Bank of Lincoln, and distributed to the Food Bank’s more than 50 agency partners in Southeast Nebraska that serve low-income children and families. Gardeners can also drop off produce at the Food Bank of Lincoln Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The Food Bank is located at 4840 Doris Bair Circle, which is approximately four blocks north and one block east of 48th and Superior Streets.

Cory Priefert of Campbell’s has these tips for gardeners:
• Avoid spoilage, by putting your produce in paper sacks rather than plastic bags.
• Do not pre-wash the produce.
• Do not refrigerate the produce.

Last year’s Grow and Share program yielded more than 1,400 pounds of produce for hungry individuals in Southeast Nebraska. Food Bank of Lincoln Executive Director Scott Young said, “Nothing beats the taste of a juicy, homegrown tomato. This and all types of fresh produce are important to the agencies and families served by the Food Bank. It is the best, most nutritious option we can distribute. During the summer months, the gardeners of Lincoln and nearby communities can make a real difference in the lives of families and individuals by sharing from their gardens.”
